We just built one in a popular subdivision in League City (Houston Area). 3400 sq ft, media room upstairs, 121 per foot not counting the 5k we had to pay for larger lot. Thats not counting blinds and some items it was cheaper for us to do. We came out better using our own painter, we had the builder paint everything white and my wife had our painter do her colors. Same for blinds, we got a good deal on remote controlled blinds. Had basic ligthing put in and changing some of it out. Athough the basic fixtures and fans the builder used looks pretty dang good to me, but not my wife.

I would guess by the time we get all the [censored] my wife wants we will be at buck 125.

We looked at building on 5 acres in a subdivision near Lufkin, but I have to work in Houston and further South enough it didnt make sense being that far from Town. Not counting the land it was going to cost me about 125 per ft best I could tell.

Cost a lot of money to build a house.

Once I retire in a couple of years and my wife gets burned out on this decorating kicks she seems to be hooked on, I am going to scale it back. Will build a much smaller home, but not sure where. I want to get the heck out of the big city thats for sure.

Thanks, Billy

Just a few years ago back in 2009 to 2010 you could pick up a house that was couple years old finished out with nice flooring, granite countertop, etc for around $62 per sq ft. and the bigger the house was the cheaper it was per sq ft.

Sun warms it nicely in the mornings. The hardest decision is to where to put the boat ramp

that's all fine and dandy but the wife may have other plans. They do that some times.

We are building a 1500 sq.ft. ac space and with a 490 sq.ft. porch on 3 sides. with med grade granite, custom cabinets, custom bathrooms right now we are looking at $112 sq.ft. that includes the well, septic tank and 200 ft. road. I think it will be around $120 by the time finish in med January.

100-110 max, shop contractors, don't over pay right now. Many are, not wise for resale...
We just built a Barndominium for less than that per square foot.. Granite, knotty alder cabinets, very nice lake view being water front.. The problem is securing a decent contractor not trying to hit a home run on YOU.. The crash of 08 hurt the number of selection, that's the problem...

Built a very nice 2200 sq ft. 4 br,2 bath,BIG fireplace on 11 acres 30 miles north of little rock in 1997. Total for house and land was 156,000. Around 59.00 a sq. ft. custom built by well known builder at the time.

Couldn't afford to do it these days.
Y'all talk like 130.00 a sq ft is nothing.

I should have move to the land of milk and honey 40 yrs ago.

The last rent house I bought was 1 year old, granite, wood floors, 3/2 with office. It is a little over 2100 square feet. I paid 107 a foot last November. Right now houses in that neighborhood are going for about 125 a foot. There is no way in hell I would pay that. It has gone up too much too fast and this market won't hold. I am not a buyer in this market. It feels bubble like.

Agree! We've been through this. Recently I believe.
