My wife and I are headed to Ray Roberts for the first time this weekend. Any information on where to put in and or cautions while running the lake would be helpful. Also, any hints on what and where to fish would be nice!

There boat ramps all around the lake, all are operated by the State Park system. $7.00 per person unless you have a yearly state park pass. I'd watch which way the wind is blowing from and launch from that side. ie. if the wind is out of the south, launch from a south side ramp. The lake can be brutal if the wind is above 10 - 15 mph because it seems to double over the water, so be prepared and always wear your life jacket while under way. Once you see telephone poles and/or trees it is time to slow down especially if you don't know the lake. Watch your graph for abrupt depth changes. I'd get a lake map from somewhere before you go, that way you'll have a ball perk idea of what is where under the surface. If you can, fish the windy side of the lake especially around points and any flats that are near-by. Top waters early and late will work. As of yesterday (Mon.) balls of bait fish are at about 20 - 25' with some occasionally being chased shallow by sand bass. Use catfish baits under trees where cormorants are roosting. Lots of small bass all over the place, big ones seem to be harder to find. Crappie and bass may be near or around the bridge pilings. Don't know what you are fishing for so other than that I can't help much but this should be a good start.

Go on YouTube and search Honey Hole Outdoors 2016 Ray Roberts. The water is lower than when they filmed it but that should get you some good info.

For your first trip on the lake I would say put in a jordan and fish sandbranch. probably the easiest place to get from one of the better ramps and has just about everything to offer.

Things get a lil strange on rr...wide open water with random hidden treasures that make themselves known , things that seem to be boat lanes that shoot up from 25 ft to 2 ft etc. I became good friends with a massive stump up near buck creek, ive never been the same since on any body of water. You never know what lurks right under the surface

Great Report! I might change my plans to Ray Bob instead this weekend.
