Looking to upgrade from my Merc 115 saltwater to a 150 saltwater. Motor will be on a 19' Kenner. Looking for recommendations in either 2 or 4 stroke motors and who to deal with. Strangely, not really finding any local info searching the internet. Appreciate any help here. Thanks!

A 2 stroke would be an easy swap. I would go with a 150hp Optimax salt water. For a new motor you will have to go through a Mercury dealer. Some dealers have 2-4 year old new motors that they will work a deal on. You will have to call around.

Thanks Gary, not much other info on this so far. If anyone knows of a reputable place to do the upgrade please let know. Thanks everyone.

I don't know if Mercury does saltwater versions anymore, do they? I would opt for the 150 4 stroke. Its a 3 liter motor, fuel efficient and supposedly performs more like a 200. They are about the same price as a 150 Pro XS Optimax.
Jacos is a good place to compare prices. Theirs is as low as you would normally find but they are in Tennessee. Both the Opti and 4 stroke are just over 10 grand.

I looked and the Kenner 19 may be rated for 125 hp. You might consider a smaller outboard. The weight difference between the 115 and 150 is about 100 pounds.

Allison could be correct on the hp rating. I did not see a 150 on a 19 but did see a 150 on a 21 Kenner.

05 Kenner 1902 Tunnel. Max rating 150 HP per specs and CC tag. Jacos pricing is the best I can find, but it also presents issues of installment and warranty stuff since not local. Still looking and thanks for your suggestions.

Jacos will install it for you and will take appointments. As far as warranty any factory authorized dealer will take care of warranty issues so you could have it fixed local if need be. Jacos may even take yours in on trade.

I wasn't really recommending Jaco's but they are a good place to compare. They have a 2 year extended warranty certificate right now but I don't know how that works and they will mount your motor for you. I've bought a motor from them but was driving through so it wasn't really out of my way. I think you can find a comparable deal closer to home. 400 dollars difference plus the association with a local dealer would be worth it to me.
If it is a 150 hp maximum either the 4 or 2 stroke would be close in weight and price. I've owned a 150 opti with absolutely no complaints and the 4 stroke has been out a couple years and is probably the more sought after in the saltwater environment. I think you would happy with either.
