Results Update:
First, I just want to thank everyone for all the tips and advice I received. The wife, dogs, and I ended up spending the weekend at a nice cabin near Fayette County Lake and had a blast. The lake was incredible and the fishing was good. Watermelon fluke jr's on c-rig/dropshot in 15' did the most work for me.

Nice sunset Friday evening

Wife's PB - 2 lbs or so - Strike King Dream Shot 4.5" Magic on a drop shot

My best for the trip came this morning on those rocks on the right side of the intake - 4.8 lbs - dropshot watermelon fluke jr

I have been trying to get more confidence in my electronics so here are two of my better shots that ended up being productive.

Thanks,
Wes

If you were to pick one lake in Texas to get on a bunch of fish (not worrying about size) next weekend, where would you go?

The wife and I just got a free weekend next weekend and we are going to head out for a little fishing trip. To keep her interested I am looking for a lake that is decent on the weekends and is producing numbers currently. I have never been to Fayette Lake but it looks like a lot of fun. I have also never fished Toledo Bend or Rayburn so they interest me as well (don't know if the recent storms did any damage there?).

Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks,
Wes

Fayette has better forecast sat sun (85 / 87) 20% chance of rain. Haven't fished there either but heard it's great. Athens is good but 82/83 with 50 and 60% chance of rain will ensure active bite with little recreational traffic.

I'd still go fayette to eliminate chance of lightning.

If the water keeps the cooling trend. Deep water docks on Cedar Creek. Shakey heads and senko. That is if you want to drive 350 miles or so. It's been a long time for me but Travis had a lot of numbers.

Just fished a tournament on Bob Sandlin this past weekend. Didn't catch very many keeper bass but as far as numbers caught a ton of small fish on a variety of baits. Schooling fish in the afternoon especially. Tons of Kentucky bass. 3XD crankbait, Zara Spook, Pop R, Ribbit frog bait, Carolina rig Fluke. Lots of fish on the crankbait and there were a few 4 to 5 lbers as well as a 7+ lber and one over 10lbs caught. Me and my partner on Saturday from about 7:00pm to dark caught over 50 fish during that time with long periods of time catching a fish on almost every cast.

Schooling fish are a given on any lake for numbers, but outside of that I'd say Fayette County or one of the other power plant lakes. I don't think I have had a trip when I caught less then 25 fish in a day in a long time. Numerous 50 plus days, and several 100 fish days.

On the worst days fishing is still good.

Gaylord on Grapevine is a pretty nice place to spend a weekend with the wife. Fishing is great in the lake as well.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

There you go.
