Managed 2 bites in deeper brush piles. Fished from 330-8 pm in various depths with various baits. I didn't see a lot of shad balls on my graphs, hardly any actually. Not much top water schoolers either. Seemed kind of off.

The evening bite is tough.
Saturday morning the fishing was good.
Daylight -- shallow in the weeds with weightless fluke
8am--11am -- BIG schools in the main lake down at the dam.
1-3 pounders busting shad balls all over the area.
small white bait.......that was the trick.
The guy that did the best was a local fly fisherman ,,,,,, he was tearing them up.

Took my daughter to lake Athens yesterday morning.
Started at bridge and never had a bite. After the other boats left(which I saw no fish caught), we ran to right side of dam.
Daughter caught the first fish at 0745, nice 3 pound bass.
Then the schooling was on! 9 boats in a quarter mile area.
She was using a white fluke on weighted swimbait hook, I threw 1/4 ounce chrome traps, flukes, sluggo's, and worms.
She managed 3 bass in the 3lb range, I got a crappie and a sand bass.
We stayed till ll00 and I went home with my tail between my legs....
Not sure if I will take her again......

Lots of schooling action, just couldn't find anything in the boat they wanted.

I did get close enough to another boat to see he was throwing a double fluke rig.

But was he catching with the double rigged fluke
Same schooling action this morning. Counted 15 boats at one time in the area the size of a football field.
Some chased the schools & some (me) just waited for them to resurface right next to my boat. Everyone was catching a 2-3 pounder every now and then but it was hard to get them to hit with so much live bait in the water. Some caught more than others.....everyone I talked to was throwing something different.

I happened to be one of those out there today trying to catch those schoolers. They were sure picky! First time on Athens in several years. We managed to catch several in other places but couldn't get the schooling fish to bite. I saw a few caught but couldn't tell what they were throwing. Something little for sure!

Yep. Have to go little this year. They are tough. As said, to much live bait.

The guy throwing the Donkey Rig (double fluke) caught 4 on it.
It was a pretty slow morning until he started using the Donkey....caught 6 total...Typical summer fishing at Athens.

After the schooling stopped I found the shad had moved into the grass in the same areas. Some bigger fish in there...

Magnum White bass mixed in the schools too, and gar, just everything at the same time.

I was there with my 12 year old son friday night from 9:30 to 1 am. We / I managed to boat three bass out of 5 bites. he was face timing his sister at 11:30 when i caught one, so she got to watch the action from her bed.

highlight of the trip was my son finally mastering the bait caster, he said "this is fun I'm done with spinning reels"
