Since you are asking this tells me you are just now starting to get in to jig fishing. If that's the case I would just go to academy and get some cheap ones. Point is since you are just now starting out then you are going to be getting hung up a lot and losing them. Until you get good and know how to work them I would go cheap for now. Or splurge and go wth Mark Pack's jigs and you won't get hung up. His website is mpacklures.com. Good luck

Dirty Jigs are a go to for me; great skirts with up to 13 different colors (don't quote me on that) in them for realism and quality hook in all their jigs for a good price. I have a lot of confidence in Dirty Jigs.

But there are a lot of really good handmade jigs out there also. And I'm becoming more and more of a believer in living rubber in certain situations.. The way it shakes and shimmy's I feel like does make a difference in certain applications, for instance in the summer when everything is moving fast or when you get into finicky fish that want some sent on their jig. (Donald has spoke to the scent holding capabilities of rubber above, silicone doesn't hold scent very well)

My recommendation would be to buy 2 jigs (in case you lose one) of many brands in the same weight and color then do a comparison test to see what you like. You will begin to notice the certain qualities you like in a jig and will find one that works best for you. Then you can stock up on all your different colors and weight sizes.

All jigs catch fish, granted some better than others, but there isn't a "best jig" for every fisherman out there with their different styles, techniques, equipment and most importantly preference.

Confidence is the most important trait in a jig, try a bunch of jigs and make a choice that works for you.

I say we fish 5 days a week and work 2.

Do yourself a favor and go to www.screwylewylures.com and look at his custom jigs. They are top notch and he has an insane amount of colors and profiles. Awesome customer service also. I switched to him from Jig X

If I could add my fav - the Dredge Series from Mike Siebert. That Owwner Deep Throat hook is the best.

Asking what is the best jig is like asking whose wife is prettier. Guaranteed to get a fight started. duel

There are a thousand types of jigs and each has it use. I would suggest reading several good articles (BASSMASTER, BASS, etc) on what jig works best in what situation. Rule of thumb, deeper the water or thicker the cover- go heavy. Fishing around shoreline structure or swim jig- go lighter. Football heads wobble when worked along the bottom, pointed head jigs come thru the grass and brush better. Decide what type of water you will be fishing and then select the jig.

PS- There are as many colors as there are types of jigs, You can get by with Black/Blue, Pumpkin Green, Watermelon Red (Bream colored) and white. There are times and lakes were a variation or different color will be more productive, but these will work 90% of the time.

Are finesse and swim jigs pretty much the same thing with the exception of the head and the way the skirt is placed?
