Headed to Lewisville on Friday for the first time but I am a bit concerned about all the stumps and trees I hear about that are just below the water surface. I was planning on putting in near Pier 121 marina and don't want to find myself in the wrong places so any advice would be appreciated on what to avoid.

I also read Mr. Paty's post saying "use your graph to find submerged standing timber in 20'-30' water and fish vertically with small baits with 1/8 or 1/4 oz jigs. Shad colors with glitter worked best. Bite is extremely light." Any suggestions on where I should start on this new to me lake?

If you launch at 121, you can fish inside the cut with little worry that you'll hit any standing timber (unless you go way up toward The Colony). Going outside the cut, you can run straight across the dam face (as much as 1/2 mile off the dam) with no problems all the way to the 35 bridge. If you go west of the 35 bridge, be careful. Going out of the 121 cut and turning right (north) is where you can get into trouble if you don't know where you can/can't run, and especially out in the middle of the big lake...it's a forest out there, regardless if you see high speed ski boats running out there. They get lucky...most of the time. If you do get into the old Lake Dallas area; you're good as long as you don't go to far north. The Little Elm area and the Cottonwood areas are places you need to be careful also.

I realize this is pretty vague information, but it is really hard to tell someone where all the 'widow makers' are. You only learn that by time on the water. Good luck.

Here are the coordinates for the ones that I call Widow Maker's or start showing when the lake starts getting about three feet low. You will notice that a lot of them are located just south and west of Hackberry and covers about 50 acres. If you have Navionics chip, it does outline the area with all the trees in the area. What is scary is it looks like it's wide open to rip through but is loaded with trees that are just under the surface in 30 to 45 foot of water.

The other areas that Guy mentioned have some trees that normally stick above the water line so you can see that there should be other trees in the area.

I use the big red + symbol as it is easy to see when I am running hard but getting close to these areas. Be safe out there.

Wow, that is a pretty intimidating list. I never knew there were that many that came that close to the surface in open water. Thanks for sharing this valuable information that you spent many hours/days collecting!!!

I would just get me some binoculars and follow a certain pontoon around and potlick.

Can u imagine? Today that pontoon went out with Ernest and Papa Peck aboard! I heard those broad shouldered crappie, as soon as they saw the outline of that pontoon, just swam to the surface, raised fins high in the air and said, "Mssr's Paty and Peck, don't set that hook! We surrender!"
