I saw the Helix 9 for the first time today at Gander Mountain. My first impression was "this thing is massive". Any idea why they left so much black space around the screen area on the unit? Looks like the 9 and 10 are the same size. It just seems to be a very big unit for a 9 inch screen.

They didn't have the 12 in stock. I'm sure that is one big unit.

The salesman at BPS told me Humminbird used the same case for the 9" and 10". I was almost set on that unit before I went to the store to look at it. It is enormous for a 9".

Just looking and you can get the 9 SI/GPS for $899 or the 10 SI/GPS for $1499. That's $600 extra for one inch of screen space. Or, you could get one 9 SI/GPS and one 9 Sonar/GPS for about the same money. Two 9 inch screens or one 10 inch screen. I think two 9s would be the way to go.

2 thing to consider the 10 has better resolution and comes with a hdsi transducer and the 9 comes with the compact transducer which can be swapped for about $80 or so.

I have two Helix 9 SI GPS units on my boat, and I am quite happy with them. I upgraded my transducers to the HDs and was surprised at how quickly I got them once I shipped my compacts.
