I just attempted to have bass pro install a 5.5" manual jackplate onto my skeeter. Once I saw it after installation, I noticed the lack of space between the hydraulic hose fittings and the transom; I could barely raise the motor enough to put the transom saver on. So after all the trouble putting it on, I asked them to take it back off.
Here's the question, is there a cure for this? I have seen this befor on an older boat but wasn't expecting it on mine.

Not all boats have enough slack hose to accommodate a jack plate but most do to a point, but it does not surprise me that BP did not recognize this at the time of your install and let you know about the issue when something could be done about it. If you're set on having the jack plate then take it somewhere that will either put new lines on or an extension on your current lines to make the hydraulics work without binding.

raise the engine on the jack plate. it may have been mounted all the way down on the plate.
or go with more setback. that'll for sure cure the problem.

Well the boat runs good now so I really can't justify the additional cost of an 8" setback. Guess I'll just hang onto the plate for future use or liquidation. They did however suggest moving the motor up but that would have raised the prop too much and give only a little more room for the hose connections.

I have installed hydraulic steering on several boats with short jackplates and there has always been an issues with the fittings hitting the transom. So as Steve mentioned raise the motor on the plate mount itself go with greater setback or as Iam doing on my 492v go with a hydraulic plate. Then you can just raise it and trim motor up. I ran other boats just being real, real careful and remembering not to trim to high and snap off fittings.

that's why my plates are made the way they are. very little issues with anything hitting the jack plate.

raise the engine on the jack plate. it may have been mounted all the way down on the plate. This, Raise the motor on the plate so hoses and connections have more clearance with the top of the plate then adjust the plate lower to compensate for the additional height from raising the motor.
