My son in law bought a boat for his family so he could have some fun on the weekends. A Ranger Fish and Ski. One of the first things he did was ask me to teach him how to fish. We went out a few times last year and before the start of this year he asked if we could fish some tournaments. We talked about it and over the last few months I have seen someone absorb so much and we decided to join the Ray Hubbard Bass Club. This weekend is his first actual tournament. We have gone out a few times and even went to Palestine last weekend so he could get more familiar with the lake. I did not realize how this whole process was going to affect me. I am seeing someone get so excited about every little thing that has to do with fishing. From doing upgrades to his boat, to checking out maps, to learning about his graph, learning different techniques and baits. And it is really awesome to see him catch a fish. He caught a really solid 3+ lber last week and we were high fiving like crazy. To see him enjoy this great sport has made me relive so many memories I have been lucky enough to pile up over the last 30 years and has brought back the excitement of bass fishing. We may not be able to compete with a lot of the guys but I wouldn't trade places with anyone for the opportunity I have been given. And even better his son, my grandson, is following right in line.

Its probably been that long ago for me; mid 80's when I started, a freak chance to buy a nice Ranger boat for half of what it was worth and then not to long after that someone talking me into fishing a bass tournament on Lake Earling in Arkansas, that started with a blue northerner snow storm. I wound up winning that tournament, and yes at that point I was blazing................
