Welcome aboard Gregg

Not too many of us received as great a welcome gift as lane gave you.
I added his comments to the log, as some of that may work on tawakoni
We have caught shallow crappie as early as the last week in January here

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I didn't see where anyone pointed this out so I will. Lane is a guide with bigcrappie.com and an excellant one at that, as all of Chucks people are.
The best advice I can give you, if you seriously want to learn to catch crappie is book a trip with bigcrappie.com. All the guys are great teachers and you'll learn more in a half day trip than you'll pick up on your own in a year on the lake! And, if you take your daughter along, she'll be hooked on fishing with you from now on!
Good luck and good fishing!
