I would like to add one to my HDS Touch. Has anyone done this and feel it is worth it? I understand that it needs to be the LSS-2 and not the Gen 1 series.

I am pretty sure all the HDS touch units have the module built in - you would just need the structure scan transducer

Unless you are asking about the structure scan 3D which was released this week (and install on my boat yesterday). That needs a module and a new transducer

If you're just looking for the LSS2 transducer - I have one for sale as I no longer need it

The LSS2 box improves the quality of the side and down scan with the touch units. Lowrance does not advertise it, but it does help. I tried my HDS 12 gen 2 touch w/ and w/o the module and it makes a noticeable difference.

I think it's fairly new and expensive. Contact David at Shut-up-and-fish for pricing and availability.
Believe its in the $1,000 range and that your HDS has to be gen 2 or 3.
DO NOT buy the 'spotlight'. It is a total joke of a product!

I installed my 3D structurescan last week and have tested a couple of times. If you want super clear sidescan and downscan with much more range, the new 3D transducer is awesome. You can clearly see every bit of 200' left and right clearly (@ around 20' depth).

But is it feasible since the cost is 1k and not be able to see the 3D function since this new 3D only works on the Gen3? I'll try to post a couple of sidescan and downscan screenshots....

Here is a good example that I shot at 160' both direction with only 1/2 screen from a HDS12 (share with 1/2 screen sonar), yet you can still see clearly all 320' from left to right with no shaded unreadable area. Notice you can see the brush pile very clear on the sidescan as it also shown on the high chirp sonar


Although I didn't capture the 200' plus sidescan, I promise you that it is super clear even at wider range. Here is another example of the 160' sidescan. Notice how all structures of fence line is vivid...

Will do. I have heard from a respected crappie fisherman that it improved his images by 20%.

I also talked to a Lowrance rep who told me that with all the extra functions (touch screen, scroll back, etc.) that they put in the Touch units, it took a lot of processing power away from the side/down scan. From what I understand, the StructureScan box does the side/down scan processing and just sends the pics to the unit to be displayed and is all that the box does.

I bought one last fall when West Marine cleared em out but haven't installed it yet! Guess now that bow seasons over I need to get on that!!

Funny how the priorities can change so quickly. I sat in a stand on Sunday with the bow but by the afternoon, all I had was crappie on my mind.

I'm not nearly as mad at those deer as I was back in October...

Yeah, but I do hold a grudge and will be back after them come October.
