Down here on the Middle Texas Coast fishing between cold fronts from January to April can prove to be some great fishing trips. We had a perfect example of that today. We headed out to the many back lakes of Matagorda Island. This time of year can be very productive fishing over shallow mud/grass bottoms. Our lures of choice today were a pearl and chartreuse Corky Fatboy, and the Mirrolure purple demon. Once we found where the baitfish was staging, we quickly found our bite. It wasn't aggressive, almost like you were hung in the grass. Every now and then the trout would really thump it. Most of our 23 trout were between 19-21" and the 4 reds were lower slots. Brush off the cabin fever and come down to get in on some of the action!
