Well, I was going to try a little trout fishing on the Guadalupe, but took one look at that current and decided against it. That water was zipping. I think any trout that were released would have been dispersed pretty quickly with the water flowing that fast. Anybody have luck out there this weekend? I decided to drive a little further to Guadalupe River State Park (above Canyon Lake) and try my luck there. No trout to be caught, but I did catch some small Guadalupe Bass. The current was not quite as bad above the lake, versus below.

Sounds like you salvaged the trip nicely. I plan on taking a few trips to the Hill Country this spring and the Guadalupe above Canyon Lake is definitely on the schedule. Hoping to catch my first Guadalupe bass in 2016.

It's a beautiful stretch of river. There are some amazing Cypress trees along the bank. The nice thing about the Guadalupe Bass is you don't have to catch a very big fish to get a good fight. If you catch a 12 incher you're doing pretty good.

They're releasing more trout tomorrow. Do you think it's worth the trip? Decent drive. Not sure what time of the day or where they release them at though. Thanks.

Me and a friend of mine did pretty good this past Monday. Limited out. We fished at the edge of the current and also found some areas with few hang-ups.

I pulled this from the TPWD website:

"21. Canyon Tailrace/Guadalupe River: Trout will be stocked at Guadalupe Park, Whitewater Sports, Rio Guadalupe/bridge crossing in Sattler, Third Crossing, and Camp Huaco Springs. During the stocking season, several locations will offer free access to trout anglers. See map. Please note special regulations are in effect for trout on some sections of this river reach."

I usually go to Camp Huaco Springs. It's very bank fishing friendly. I think they generally release the fish sometime between mid-morning and early afternoon. Definitely worth the trip if you've never been before. Plenty of good BBQ joints in New Braunfels too. food
