I think they stop growing because there are so many of them. They have to work too hard for a meal. I noticed that after the flood the fish were a bigger size than usual, which I attributed to a better food supply. Also, keeping the big ones and throwing the short ones back for years selects the genes for short fish.

If the TPWD would set the length at 9 inches for a few years it would help weed out the short fish.

Don't disappointed, continue and as some one said attend that seminars and sure you will learn new tips and tricks. I was also gone through similar situation as you go few years earlier. In 2014 I booked a trip with him and after that never come back without a fish or two. So I encourage you to book a trip with Carey and you will start catching fish. Moreover, there are many good helpful guys and gals in this forum to give some help Good luck

I met up with Jasoniam Thur morning and broke the curse! Caught some crappie, one keeper, then moved to another spot and I caught the biggest sand bass of my life(3.5lbs easy!). Caught a few more BIG sand bass and three largemouth. I caught them on a PAINTED jig head. lol smirk

I want to thank the members here for the kind words and offers for fishing trips.

Getting a little ahead......
As a crappie rookie myself crossing the 66 bridge and seeing how high the lake is I thought the spring crappie fishing might be pretty good as they will be back on their usual beds along original shore lines.

A couple of years ago we had high water like this and the crappie were impossible to find on Lavon. They had so much spawing cover that it was impossible to find a concentration of them. High water does make for a great spawn when it comes to crappie. All this water will make for a epic white bass creek spawn.

rmc, i saw a pic of one of the sandies you and Jason caught, man those are mega magnums! But all that water you fished that day has origins in the Elm Fork, and the Elm Fork is loaded with sandies that size, Been catching them that size out of that river and its feeder waters since 1972. Welcome to our world!

Decided I needed to get some crappie confidence and hit the trinity where I can catch crappie. Right at dark they showed me where they were with some shad hitting the surface. Caught some big uns and small ones. So I know I can catch em. Just got to find the locations.
