I went down to the Trinity today to try my luck. I went over by the wakeboard park off Northside Dr (banks are still a little treacherous over there and the wind was awful. Caught three bass, nothing great) and as I was walking down, I noticed a Game Warden truck parked on the construction road under the Northside Drive bridge. I was kind of excited; I've never seen a game warden on the Trinity.

I went over and said hello. One make and one female warden were in the truck. After they asked if I had a fishing license, they asked if I fished around here often. Not as much as last year, because of the flooding and muddy banks but I fished on the opposite site of the river more frequently because it's easier to access. I asked how things were going, when I meant, what are y'all doing out here (because I've never seen one around the Trinity), and I think they understood. They said not too bad, just looking for a gator.

A gator? Whaaaaat?

I kind of chuckled and they confirmed they were serious. They said one had been seen on that section of the Trinity recently. Very pleasant conversation for a few minutes but I didn't press too much and I kind of wished I had asked more questions. I fished for about 45 minutes and then two kids and a beagle drove by to do some water skiing, so I decided to head out.

When I was leaving, the original warden truck had been joined by another warden truck and two white, non-warden TPWD trucks and they were all out of the trucks talking. Looked like they were all getting ready to start looking around.

Anybody see or hear of a gator in this part of the city? I know they are up in the nature center. Maybe they moved around more with all of the Raina and high water we've had this year?

Per a post in the OT, a gator was caught tonight. Ten footer being relocated to the Nature Preserve. Will post a link if I find one.

lots of gators in the trinity, there is a 12 footer that hangs out at my favorite ramp. i wouldnt go near the trinity without an insurance policy personally (firearm)
i see the white bass guys hanging out in the water during winter on the trinity i guess they are hoping the gator are too cold to do much, personally i try not to give them an oppertunity

I know they're in the nature preserve, but I don't think anyone expects them to be around downtown, especially with all that happens around Panther Island, where people rent kayaks, paddle boards and floats for concerts every week.

I agree, I wouldn't wade fish it, either. I've seen your videos. Are they shot around downtown FW? They look a little more remote.

highest north i go is palastine, i would just assume everywhere on the trinity has them to be safe honestly, i have seen way too many of them below dallas to ever consider swimming unless i was releasing a monster gar and wanted to ride it into the water..i dont think anyone wants to be eaten by a dinosaur i now it freaks me out and i take certain precautions especially with my kid around, i have heard something like and estimated 500,000 gator live in tx its surprising to me we dont here about more attacks..

Looks like they caught it.

Also, the rumor on the Ticket today was that there is a 12 footer up in Lake Lewisville. Creepy.

Yup saw the video of the catch. It was real lol. And you are right to assume they made their way down from the nature center with the flooding. Flooding tends to move stuff around. I guess gators can be one of those things! I know one thing, im gonna keep my eyes open a little wider from now on fishing down there!

Until recently when some drunk decided to ignore multiple posted warning signs and go swimming in the dark there has never been a gator related fatality in the state of texas. The largest number of injuries to humans involving gators are the result of tp&w employees working with gators. The second largest number of injuries from gators also involve rope swings...
