Got a couple of the newer (silver) Curados 200 HG and they both have a horrible clicking sound that happens about half way through the cast about every fifth cast, and when it does I hear a light clicking upon the retrieve. It comes and goes every few casts and is consistent on both of them.
Anyone else have this issue and have it diagnosed? Is it an easy fix? Is Shimano cutting corners and the new Cur's are junk? What's the deal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Haven't had any problems with my new curados and have had em for about a year and love em but the first one my brother bought was a lemon and he had issues with it from the first cast

I have one and won't be buying another one. Mine makes a whirring noise after 30 minutes or so, I will spray some reel magic in it and it will quite it down for about 30 minutes and then it will start again. Yes Shimano tried cutting corners by having them made in Malaysia, they had them made cheaper and they made cheap stuff.

I looked at one at a reel repair shop that had been taken apart and it was made of mostly plastic.

These reels require you to oil the bearing and brake race every third or fourth trip. One little drop on the bearing and one or two on the brake race. I do this to every reel I have and it helps every reel regardless of brand. The new shi sons even mention this in the directions. I've got 5 new curados and 20 others and oiling them helps tremendously.

Do any of you guys disassemble, clean, and properly lube these reels BEFORE you use them? Almost every reel is improperly lubed at the factory. Most assume the end user will NEVER properly clean and lube the reels after they buy them. They usually have way too much oil and grease in them.

People who don't put oil on the brake race complain about it being noisy. Mine were noisy, and I oiled them using a q-tip all the way around the brake and its great now. Curado 200i oil and cleaning how to video I have one and won't be buying another one. One of the breaks may be slightly out of place. Same thing happened with mine. I took it apart and reseated the breaks and it is working perfectly.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Thanks for all the tips, fellas. I'll disassemble and check for cleanliness and regrease/oil and see what results I get.

Me and my father in law both have one and they work perfectly. The braking system runs better a little gummy IMO. I ran mine straight out of the box for about 8 months and had no problems until I cleaned it. One day flipping in the grass and it works fine again. I love the reels and will definitely buy another, smooth and the xship makes a difference in the torque for me. Which is a big deal when horsing big girls out away from the dock pilings!
