Where are you coming from? Where do you plan on fishing?
Both locations have plenty good as far as launching. It's mainly about proximity. You had previously said you wanted to fish the south end. If that's the case, then Twin Dikes or the Public Ramp by Umphreys would be fine for you.

2.5ft high would make it 166.9. But you have to factor in full moon and tidal swing... Tidal swing a factor on these reservoirs ???

Coming from the Beaumont area, another option I hadn't thought about is San Augustine, a little further drive but as far as I can remember it was close to a lot of good stuff. That's probably what I'll end up doing. Anyone know if that area has been producing any fish? Either way, Thanks for the help guys.

Coming from Beaumont stay on 69 thru Woodville to Zavalla (stay the speed limit in Z town). Turn right on 63 (toward Jasper) and go thru town about (keep straight, don't turn on 147) and go about 4 miles out and turn left by the big cemetery and go to Caney Creek ramp. It's protected and central on the lake. Straight across from Veach.
I agree with what others said but fish are scattered. Cranking main lake points (mid levels) can get you a good fish.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

There are fish on Caney Island. They are tight in the flooded willow trees and buckbrush. You have to dead stick your bait up in trees. Pitch it in and do not move it.Trig with 1/4 or 5/16 tungsten weight with 8" Zoom Green Pumpkin Lizard did good for us. Try straight shank 5/0 hook. (Wide gap gets tangled in the limbs.) Wear your "big girl panties" because it's a gunfight in those trees when you hang one! Don't go taking a "knife to a gunfight" either. minimum 20 lb fluoro. Braid will work but if there is any wind the braid floats and tangles in the limbs. The fluoro tends to slide easier in the brush. Lots of smaller but quality fish and an occasional bigger one if you can get them out. Plan to loose 1/2 of the fish that bite. They wrap up deep in the trees and are very hard to get out. The key is to fish slow. and then slow down some more. Oh yeah watch out for snakes in the trees. There were several sunning and didn't want to move!
