I have a dedicated cranking battery, nothing but cranking. My question is: will the engine charging system (90 Yamaha 4 stroke) keep the battery charged or do I need to charge between uses?

How often do you use it? I charge mine before every trip just to be sure, never had a problem, I use a Group 31 1050 amp with 220 reserve Interstate commercial battery.

minimum of one time a week. I have 2-Optima 31 blue top for trolling(24 V), a group 24 stowaway marine/starting for acc., and a group 24 marine/starting for cranking only.

If you fish miles off shore on the Great Lakes, it will surely always be fully charged.

If you fish Lake Raven, a small idle only lake, it will surely not keep charged.

Since you are somewhere in-between it depends on how long the alternator runs to replenish the charge lost cranking the motor. Watch the voltage after each day....above ~12.6V you're staying reasonably charged, below 12.3V, losing battery life and risking becoming stranded unable to crank motor without a jump.
