I hope you can find those. 1/4 ounce weight seems a little light.

Best way to figure it out is to run trot lines. I consider trot lines harvesting and jugs just fun to use. Only take what you WILL eat!
Is it possible to do something your whole life and still be an ameteur?

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Jug lines aint fishing thats just harvesting Harvesting you say? So if you catch your limit with a rod and reel what is that called? If it is legal it is fishing. Sounds more like a lack of tolerance to me. Jug fishing is fun and my kids love it, not to mention you fill your freezer pretty quick. Also wrestling a 30 pound plus blue on a hand-held line is a hoot. Of course anything over 10 pounds goes back in the water. Anyway: I do as all of the above said, in the winter I fish deeper 25 to 50 feet and in the summer shallower, 10-20 feet my bait will always be above the thermocline. To me the hardest part is to keep the line tight when you drop is so the bottom bait will not lie on the bottom so I use a heavy weight. Basically a discarded 12-16 ounce soup of vegetable can filled with concrete and I fashion a piece of wire hanger as to attach a cheap carabiner to the line. Most if not all of my jugs have 55 feet of line. I usually run three hooks spaced out every five feet. Here is a pic of my jugs, I used tarred line as it does not tangle and white duct tape. But now your jugs can be any color, I will wrap chartreuse duct on them next time. D- you are welcome to use mine if you like or I can tell you how to build you a dozen a dozen is a good number since one or two are always out of commission. I once had a big 30 pound or so blue hit three different jugs at the same time and he made a mess of my lines. I am sure I left a lot out but I hope this helps, if any one of you want to know how to build these let me know, I will gladly help. -a You mention keeping hooks off bottom..Look and consider this http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...s?#Post10170135 Read and look at bullcrappie stuff and pic Those snap swivels will cost ya fish

So do you want heavy weight on the bottom of the line, or is it better to let it drift, if so would a 1 oz weight do it?

So, with 5ft lines, you are fishing very shallow, in the grass? I have some very close to yours, 7 ft and then some 30's and 5 70's Texoma style. I plan on setting the short ones out this Friday night, and sticking them around some grassy areas. was going to use Hotdogs and Garlic, with some Liver, but have access to some small perch, as well.

I generally use garlic weenies for my noodles first then cut shad. Only thing I like better than catching fish is eating them! Seems to me a limit on noodles is just as many as a limit on poles...

Using a slip sinker mine will fish from 2 to 6 ft deep this time of year. Once fish move back to deeper water just change out the line.

http://www.catfish1.com/forums/showthread.php?38746-Flagging-Catfish-JugsThese are what I use. I have about 30 of them rigged, and over time have changed most of my depths to 7' or 10'. I use only 1 hook per line, got tired of 2 hooks getting tangled up. I use 1/4 egg sinker above swivel, and a 3/0 circle hook. Flagging jugs are pretty fun to fish with. I throw em out in 15' of water or so and usually they drift to whatever depth they're made for. Some times the 7'ers will get hit in 20' of water by suspended fish.
