Pulled into a cove yesterday. We immediately began seeing fish. None were holding tight to specific pieces of structure. Most seemed to be cruising around and holding to specific "areas" but not to a specific spot.

Depth was mainly 10-15' and we could see every rock on the bottom and even make out the greenish color on the fish as they were swimming around.

I was thinking these were mostly pre-spawn fish????

I tossed flukes, lizards, black/blue crawfish at them till I was blue in the face. Tried texas rigged, weightless, and a Carolina rig. Couldn't buy a bite. We probably saw a dozen or so fish that were in the 3-4 lb range and another that was bigger. I'm guessing she was 6-8 lbs.

We left the area for a while and then went back and kept our distance from the areas we had seen them. Figured I needed to make long casts to not spook them. Still no luck.

How would you approach these fish? Or would you leave them altogether?

Gonna try to give them a shot this afternoon. Think I'm going to try drop-shotting some smaller lures and maybe try some swimbaits.

I fish a lot of gen clear water. There a few techniques that have really helped me. 1.drop shot 2.jerkbait 3. Swimbait/swimjig

Occasionally I'll fish a weightless trig or a Carolina rig. Color seems to be a big influence. So I throw a lot of ghost colors

Drop shot is my favorite in clear water. Also your line can make a big difference. Being patient is the key

What lake?

Use a lighter leader on your bait and try wacky rigging it, just be slow and a good distance.

Agree; drop shot and jerkbait. Shaky head and split shot would be things I'd try next. Interesting that weightless and flukes didn't work--could have definitely been a color or rhythm issue.

Alan Henry and judging by the parking lot yesterday those same fish probably saw hundreds of lures yesterday. Think I found the only cove without a boat in it yesterday afternoon.

I was out on AH yesterday and experienced the same thing. I could literally see fishing eyeing my fluke. Several would put the tail of it in their mouth and take off. Threw the kitchen sink at them as well. Everything but drop shot and jerkbaits. Will have to throw them next time out.

Boat ramp was crazy. Two bass clubs were having tourneys.

I threw a jerkbait for a little while. Usually always pick up a few small spots for the grease on them. I refer to my jerkbaits as my meat lures. Although I have also caught my biggest two fish on a jerkbait (not on Henry, biggest on that lake was an almost 3 lb spot).

Couldn't even buy a fish on the jerkbait.

Ghost pattern silent crankbait

I would make long casts with light line ( 6lb test) small sinker and 4 inch or smaller worm. use natural colors. Usually if those fish see you, they aren't going to bite they won't be around long either, unless they're spawning.
