Whats the best lake to live on in Texas for bass fishing?
Big fish? Numbers? Lake holds water? Close to other lakes? Year round fishing?

Holbrook, Fork, Athens or any east texas lake. I love east texas and going to move soon. My son wants to live on Fork but I don't think he would ever come home. He would be fishing 24-7.

Cypress Springs or Bob Sandlin are perfect but Cypress gets my vote. I've had a weekend place out there for going on 7 years now and the lowest the lake has been during that time is about 3 feet low vs Sandlin's 8-9 feet low. It's a really pretty lake for being in NE Texas. You can always catch good numbers for the most part out there because the spots are huge in numbers on that lake but you can also catch quality. The crappie fishing can also be off the hook at times with BIG crappie. Bob Sandlin is next door, Monticello is 10 min away and you can be at Lake Fork Marina in 35-45 minutes depending on what part of the lake you live on.

All depends....if you want to live on a great fishing lake....or one with scenic beauty......Around here, in East Tennessee.....for a fishing lake....Chickamauga......for beauty......the western shore of lower Tellico....with the view of the Smoky Mountains in the background......

Mid lake T Bend. That lake is equal to several lakes and 30 minutes to Rayburn. Upper end gets you near all the East Texas directory of lakes. South end gets you within easy driving to the south Louisiana coast and the best coastal fishing in America.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

T Bend is under legal mandate to keep water level no more than 6 feet below pool. (I think it is 6')

Athens gets my vote. Nice homes, nice town, great lake, and a quick drive to other lakes.

Ditto ^^^ A friend took me to Cypress night fishing when I was 18 (been a long time ago). I got hooked. This is where I learned bass fishing. As luck would have it a few years later I got hooked up with a girl when I was 22 that had cool parents with a little money. They wanted to get a lake house somewhere. I took them to Cypress and gave them a boat tour. One week later they owned a nice little tri-level house in Panther Creek. What a great weekend place it was for this poor country boy from Leonard, Tx. It had a boat house with electric lift and all. We got married a few years later. We enjoyed the lake house for about 10 years. It was home away from home. It was heaven. Then my work sent me away. Since we weren't around as much they sold it (made $135 on it btw). We miss it so much. Cypress is awesome. It is a great fishery. It gets choppy because the boat waves bounce off the retaining walls and back into the lake. On the weekends there are a lot of ski boats and jet skis. But if you go during the week you have it to yourself. Night fishing is great too. These are my two largest Cypress Springs bass. These mounts are 18 and 20 years old. One is a replica, one is the real fish. I wish I had a mount for every DD I caught out of that lake. I knew that lake like the back of my hand. I knew where they were and knew how to catch them. I spent a many a nights by myself on that lake pulling big bass out of holes and brush piles. Man I miss them days.

Lived on Caney Lake near Jonesboro, Louisiana for a while. I hope to retire there.....This lake has a history of producing state record LMB's, 4 in all I do believe.....it has produced two 13+ pounders this spring signs that it is headed back to its former glory after being destroyed by the LWFD putting way to many sterile grass carp in it in the early 90's. The carp have reached the end of their life span and are dying off now and the lake is getting its vegetation back. The current state record is right around 15.5 pounds.

Good question. I would like a lake house. Not sure to pick just for bass fishing or try to get wife and daughter interested too. Fork would be my obvious choice now for Bass. Possum Kingdom for more recreational stuff. I need to check out Athens. I like Texoma and would have to think twice about. Maybe even a little ranch on Ray Roberts, there are some BIG bucks there running around those ranchettes.

Big fish? Numbers? Lake holds water? Close to other lakes? Year round fishing? T-Bend has all of these and you can always look for new water to fish and its like 3 lakes into one from probably feb-june and less than an hours drive from say rayburn which is not a bad lake either...

Someone mentioned Bob Sandlin earlier. Here is a home with 5.2 acres, 6,000 Plus feet, boat house and multiple stalls and more. It was listed at one point for 799K but it is now being auctioned on April 28th. Get your checkbooks out; minimum bid starts at 100K! Take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Dw4jNifsAUBrad

Just registered tonight and waiting approval on my display name. Dont know if I can give any names away just yet but...I am moving to Texoma the end of May. Been driving back and forth from Allen too long. Love Texoma! I have lived on Granbury and Cherokee but loving this big water. If you go there the Mobil station at the corner of hwy 289 and Highport Rd has not had any ethanol put in their tanks for many years. They said there would always be a trace but I stopped using ethanol killer. Only no ethanol gas on the lake I know of. My Yamarhammer likes it.

If it's Toledo Bend you want for fishing and deer hunting, there's a neat cabin available right now on south end. It's listed in TFF Trading Post-Swap-Classifieds forum.

Thanks Crankn. Would be keeping that Toledo cabin if I lived anywhere near that part of the world.

There are many southern Oklahoma lakes that are as close as east Texas lakes from the DFW area. I've had 7 acres with 600' waterfront on Lake Eufaula for 30 years and enjoy it.

Amistad, ask Denny Brauer Amistad is a nice like but living in or around Del Rio would leave a lot to be desired.

Lake cherokee... the one south of long view.
Private lake, owners only and some incredible fishing I live about 3 miles from Ol cherokee. We were going to buy on it when we were house looking but bought some acres instead.... beautiful lake, wish I could fish it!
