I have a Garmin 160 depth finder, and today for some reason the transducer, which is mounted on the hull, started clicking. The graph was working fine but the noise was driving me nuts. I am sure the fish could hear it if I could. It has never done this before. Can anyone help me with this?

It's the new, built-in fish call so you don't have to knock on the hull of your boat when fishing sandies..... "Knock 3 times on the ceiling if you want me, twice on the pipes if the answer is nooooooo..."

I haven't run a Garmin, but I've heard my Lowrance and Eagle units click. I figure it is the unit switching between transmit and receive. I don't recall hearing this switch take place in the transducer though. Of course Garmin could do it a bit different than LEI. Reckon it could be a defective transducer. See if you can borrow one to plug into your unit & see if you can hear it.

Today, is the first time I have ever heard the clicking and I have been out many times, but it is definately coming from the transducer not the graph itself. I can grab it when its on and feel it pulsing.

This is the transducer transmitting. Spoke to a rep from Hummingbird and they said this is normal. The current Lowrance units I am now running make the same noise.

Yeah, I can vouch for the clicking. I have a H'bird on my trolling motor and I can hear it clicking. It clicked right out of the box. It doesn't seem to matter when it comes to catching fish, but it will drive you nuts.

If you will hold your ear close to any transducer you can hear it clicking when the unit is on. I've had some loud ones and some quiet ones the only way to stop it is to change transducers----------gozzie

It will make the clicking noise when you are not in water or in very shallow water, I know this, but not why. When you get in deeper water it quites. I have a Lowrance LMS 240 GPS and it does it also.

Like with any type of vehicle that is making any kind of strange noise (ie...clicking, knocking, squeeking, etc...) I suggest to get a louder radio and the noise seems to vanish!

I was going to make a joke but then I thought of a reasonable question. Is the transducer click variable? Is it louder when you crank up the sensitivity of the unit? Is this what "sensitivity " or "gain" all about ?
