I'm not shire why your having trouble the guide tube is a few inch long plastic pipe that slides in a he top of the cap ,you do have that , right

Right! I'd be worried if you put enough pressure to bend the copper tube you might have damaged the seal inside the motor or the plastic housing. If so and it can suck air you might have cooling problems now too.

Sorry I've been off line I work 3rd shift. Yes the plastic guide tube is there, after giving it a lot of thought I think my problem stems from having the motor trimmed up while trying to install the lower unit. The guide doesn't keep the copper water pipe from tipping at an angle so it's not going straight up into the motor. I took the impeller housing back off this morning and rechecked it no cracks and the seal isn't torn so I have reinstalled it. I don't go to bed on friday mornings so tomorrow morning I will try to reinstall the lower unit with the motor being trimmed straight up and down in hopes that this was my problem.

I re-install the lowers all of the time and I like them all up. After the initial stab and lining up the tube, hold up the lower while letting the trim down to some support(like a folding metal chair) for the lower unit, turn prop shaft or flywheel to line up the main shaft splines trim down, then up to line up the shift shaft splines with needle nose pliers, trim down and should be home.

like Gary... trimmed all tha way up is easiest.. up or down ya still gotta get those fingers in there ta line up tha copper with guide tube... anytime it lines up without tha "finger" consider ya self one lucky dude...

then comes tha drive shaft.. then tha shaft shaft...... GL.

Ok time to eat a little crow. After trying for an hour I gave up and called a friend who told me to put the copper pipe into the motor first then the lower unit and line up the pipe before pushing it home. Now I know some of you are thinking what a Dumb A but the water pipe came out with the lower unit so I assumed that's the way it needed to go back in. Long story short now you will understand how I bent the pipe in the first place. I want to give a big thanks to everyone for the advice especially David Butler (Butler Automotive) out of Red Oak. Anyone in or around Waxahachie David Butler runs working man's tourneys tues night at Clark Lake 6-9p & Lake Waxahachie on Thursday night 6-9p $25 per boat up to 2 people per boat. Thanks again Fisheye's
