So the family is going camping this weekend at Cooper Lake this weekend. Was wanting to know if any one could give some advice on bank fishing in the state park area? Also I'm very new to fishing so simple is best.

Also also will be teaching my kids to fish as well so there's that.

Use to fish the pier and bulkhead of the South Unit. Haven't been there in several years. The lake has been really low. I believe it is now 6' low - had been 13'.

I went there in October 2014 for a camping trip as well, it was very low at the time. If you have waders or hip waders that might be your best bet to get some line out there. Also, the pier is pretty much dry at least it was in October, I haven't been back there since. If you are going to fish with children try to fish for cat fish that way you can throw bait way out there and let it sit. I would say hot dogs but the bait usually will fall off by the time you wip the line out there. Try secret 7 or chicken liver, anything smelly to get the cat fishes attending will work.
Good luck fish

Last check, Cooper was a little over 2' low. There should be fish able water at the state park now. This is the most water this lake has had in way over a year.

The lake is almost full. 2.16 low. The water is muddy. Crappie, LMB, and Sand Bass are spawning.

Thank you all for the help. I think I may go for cat to start and go from there.

Let us know how it turned out. Thinking about taking my wife up there soon for a camping trip.
