Finally got my sons to come fishing for a few days with me and can't find any crappie at Cedar Creek lake.
Anybody have any luck? I know the lake is full and it looks stained from all the rain but it's never been this hard to find fish.

I've heard of some good catches on the upper lake, but between the mud and cold water, my mid-lake stuff isn't working very well yet. I was out for a few hours yesterday afternoon, and caught two huge male crappie on a jig and bobber right off the bat. I thought I was going to have a good day, but I never got another bite.

Many of the coves I did best in last year were only 53 degrees yesterday. They're going to have to warm up a few more days before the fish get shallow. I found some 63 degree water way up the lake, but no crappie in it. The bridges and brush piles really should be working by now, but I haven't caught much on either since a couple of good days before all the cold water poured in.

It's bound to get good soon. Yesterday's two fish were two of the biggest males I've ever caught. This first one was already flying spawning colors, but the other was so light and such a chunk, I thought it was a female. They're obviously just starting to move up in that spot.

This male was flying his colors.

This one, caught from 5 feet further down the bank, wasn't.

It's only two fish, but they were so big, they'll make a meal for me, so I cleaned them. And when I took that second one out of the livewell a few hours after catching it, it was as dark as the first, and they were both males. There will be lots of shallow fish soon. It sounds like Lane is already catching them. Guess I need to follow him.

when all else fails fish deeper.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

That's likely good advice. As much as we enjoy catching them shallow, it's easy to spend too much time looking for shallow fish on a day that fishing deeper would be much more productive.

I haven't gotten a call for a job yet this morning, so I may get out for a few hours again today.
