I am doing some genealogy work and found this picture of my Great Grandfather. It was supposedly taken in the late 1800's somewhere near Sabine Pass. I'm a freshwater guy so I don't know much about saltwater fish id. Anyone know what kind of fish that is?

That is a Jew Fish or now called a Atlantic goliath grouper.
That is when you could catch and keep them.
Now you can only catch them and they must be release back into the water unharmed.
They are BIG--BIG--Like a GIANT Black Bass in saltwater but bronze color.

Thanks for the fish ID. I really don't know the story behind it other than knowing it is my great grandfather and where it was. If he caught it on that rig he is holding, I bet that was quite a battle.
