I am looking into a 2004 skeeter zx225 with a yamaha 225 vmax. He is asking 11,000 for the boat due to a blown power head. Could someone tell me about how much it will cost? with the worst case scenario?

Call Texas Outboard Rebuilders and get an estimate for a rebuild and to completely go through the engine to check it out. The real question is what caused it to blow. Unless that is fixed, you could very well looking at a repeat.

Powerhead needs to be replaced at the least. If you are not mechanically inclined or confident, I would pass on that one. You could be stepping into a deep hole paying someone to do all the work.

If it was me I would have a new factory powerhead installed by a professional. Would probably cost $7k-$8k. Problem with this however is you may not be able to identify any other problems with the motor until the new powerhead is installed (ie.. lower unit, injector system, etc, etc, etc.)

At $11K you could easily have $20K in the boat when you get done. But on the the other hand you would know the motor will be in top shape and last you a good long time. I would try and get him down to around $9K if you really like the boat and the hull is in good condition. other wise I would pass. Just my opinion..

What that means is a piece of piston or rod went through the side of the block. Sometimes it is repairable, and sometimes not. Depends on where the hole is. Your best bet would be to call Texas Outboard Rebuilders and talk to them. They are in Tool, Texas. he said the upper block has a hole in it. What does this mean

Sounds like you'll have no core to swap so that's more money, and if you get a power head, then you have to determine what caused the failure in the first place, could be oil or fuel delivery failure ,then your out the time your waiting to get all this together,I'm not shure i wouldnt just find a boat in good shape running right now, this could turn out to be a Money pit , the money involved in getting the motor right and going doesn't make this out to be a good deal at least to me A
