Got all my gear about 2 weeks ago, tied these within the first few days and haven't had time to post. But having a blast messing around. These are basic jigs, but it's the same colors I catch them on(electric chicken) so I figured all I need is to keep it basic. Can't wait to get experienced in tying jigs and flies. Feel free to comment on these jigs and give me tips on how I should change them or what I should add!

Hey, looks like you are coming along well. I am new too, just having started in October. One thing I notice is alot of jiggers stop the chenille about even with the point of the hook. Some say that it saves chenille, and others have said the further down you go with the chenille, that it can affect the "hook up" of a fish. Other than that, to be honest with you, those look a heck of a lot better than the first ones that I ever did.

Another great way to learn is to get in on a jig swap. its alot of fun, and in return you get jigs from every one else that participates, so you can kinda see how they do theirs.

Also, get ready to get addicted to tying because it can happen very easily.
If I can help in any way, just give me a holler.

Not a bad start at all. Definitely better than my first few. Looks like the same starter kit I originally bought from Cabelas.

I like the color combo! Those jigs will put crappie in the boat for ya. I have that same starter kit from Cabelas and it has served me well starting out. Enjoy the addiction....

They look good to me too. I bought the Terra starter kit from backwoods and it has worked well. There are times, I wish I had a rotary vice, but I've been making due.

Good looking jigs. I started tying in December 2013. The best advice I can give you is keep tying jigs and go fish them. Nothing like catching on your own jigs.

Well I know I wrote a reply to this thread the other day, but it's not here so guess I didn't actually click Submit, LOL!

Anyway the jigs looks pretty good for your start. I would make a couple suggestions though. First stop the chenille at the hook point or at most the barb. Yours are tied more like a fly tyer ties. Also maybe they will look better with a different chenille? Then I think you tied in the marabou feather with the stem still in there and i pull the barbules off the stem, stack it until I have enough to make the tail and then I pinch it where I need to cut it and then tie it in after the cut. I probably only use the stem in maybe 5% of my marabou tails and all the rest no stem.

You have a good start and think these will catch crappie as is!

What I some times do is pick the color jig head that I want, then pick the tail color and material that I want. I tie in the tail, then i may hold up 15 different colors of chenille to the jig, just to see what they would look like, until I find the color that I really like. Walker, if you would like, I can send you some different colored painted jig heads since you are just starting out. Just PM me your address, and I will send some.

When I was stationed in South Carolina, the first sergeant made jig from shag carpet. His always caught more fish than the store bought ones.
