I am in the market for a rod and would like some advise or opinions about the benefits (if any) of micro guide rods.

Great question!! I saw all the promo on 'micro eye' rods, bought two Ducketts. But, like you, are they really working as designed? Worth the extra $$? I'll be following, thanks for asking!! God Bless

I like the regular ones. I have both but I break off 3 or more a year of the micros all putting in or pulling out of my rod locker and I try and be careful in doing so but I still break them. I really do not think the micros help in casting either IMO.

I have a Loomis NRX with micro guides, hate it because I am a braid with leader guy, the knot catches pretty bad, going to just spool with some 20 inviz.

Good input. Unless I'm mistaken, that's what all the hype was about and why I bought mine. Supposed to help with better casting using 'micro eyes'. If anyone would know, I would trust someone like Marc, who depends on good equipment. Thanks, God Bless I like the regular ones. I like regular guides myself, for the simple fact my eyes aren't as good as they used to be and my hands aren't as steady either.

I have two with Micro guides and would never get another one. I think now they have something in between the two sizes.

My experience with micro guides is just what others have already mentioned. Braid to flouro knots don't pass through very well at all. I've never been able to tell the difference between the two on casting distance or accuracy. But the one thing that will prevent me from getting more micro guides is my vision. At 45 my vision is not what it used to be. My vision issues only require me to wear readers and I don't take them fishing with me. In low light situations, fluorocarbon line and my vision make it very difficult to thead line through those tiny guides.
Hope this helps in making your decision.

I think it depends on the application. I like the microguides on my rods where im going to be shaking the bait a lot. I get less line slap and more connection with the bait. So for Jig/T-rig/Shaky head I am gonna go micro if I can get it, if its basically anything else I don't think they change things much.

I kind of liked the micros but couple of years the when the Classic was in Tulsa I was looking at the new rods Gary Loomis was making and changed a couple of my rods to the in between size like Gary was making and really liked them. I am going to change some more after I have my surgery tomorrow since I don't know how long I will be off the water.

Try the kistler klx. Guide size is in between, and they work beautifully.

I have both and dont see any difference between the two. I dont use line to line setups but I can see that being an issue with micros like the guys said previously. So unless you are using a line to line setup it probably doesnt matter.

Last year I bought a 6'10 MH Falcon Bucoo with micro guides because I work a great deal of weightless flukes and senkos and the rod seems to chunk them further and easier than standard guides. But it might just be the overall rod, IDK

I have found that when I drop shot with micro guides, I have way more line twist. I am going back to regular guides for the most part. I do like Micro's on moving baits though.
