Does anyone know if you have a bad cylinder on one of these motors, if you resleave it or is there something funky about a Yamaha I don't know about

Yes they can be re-sleeved by a specialty machine shop that is set up for sleeving. Some outboards have oversize pistons available so the bad cylinder can be bored to an oversize.
