A pretty good generic article. Two things I would add:
1. Every lake is different. With two identical looking spots on two different lakes, one will work great for catching spawning crappie every year while the other never will. You have to find where they like to spawn on your chosen lake.
2. Don't hesitate to fish deeper stuff, too. Not all crappie spawn at once, and while there are lots of crappie shallow, there always seems to be deeper fish too, either on their way to spawn, or on their way back to deep water after they've spawned. On a day when the shallow spawners are being tough to catch, the deeper fish may bite better. I prefer the shallow bite, but have had many a slow shallow day salvaged by better biting deeper fish.

This was an extremely good read for a new crappie fisherman.
It's a great day because I'm not 6 feet under.
