Hi, I planning a Spring break trip to go fishing for speckled trout and redfish, etc. down by Port Aransas. I've never fished saltwater before and I'm planning to mostly fly fish but I am bringing my spinning rod along to. I'm planning on renting kayaks and fishing out of the kayak. I'm open to tips and suggestions. I'm planing on Being in Port Aransas on March 15 and leaving March 18. Thank you for any tips or suggestions.

You can rent yaks from Slowride Guide Service in Aransas Pass (361/758-0643) and hit some good fishing close to there. The crew at Slowride can point you in the right direction. Take plenty of small shrimp flies. If you fish Lighthouse Lakes or Brown & Root take some deep Clousers for the guts when the tide is dropping. The fishing this time of the year is shaped by the weather and the bait. Check the fishing reports here and on TKF to see what's happening now.

That area, LHL and B&R, will have a lot of both kayak and boat traffic on it during spring break.

There are some wade/kayak areas to 'get away' from the crowd and catch fish.

Looks like the weather will be good next week with sunny days in the forecast starting on Monday.
