My son's interest in fishing has finally peaked after taking him rainbow trout fishing recently. I grew up mainly salt water fishing along the coast and its been a long time since I've done any freshwater fishing. Im in Longview so the closest lake is lake o the pines. Any suggestions when/where/how to take him? I dont have a boat so it'll all have to be access by foot. Thanks guys.

Nick

From what I know about the lake is it is a popular crappie lake. I'd be willing to bet if you post in the crappie section you will get some good feedback especially since crappie are going to be spawning soon and will be shallow and much easier to catch from the bank. Also should be able to catch bass shallow within the next month or so. As they tend to spawn in late March and early April in my experience. I wish I could tell you where to go but I'll bet those guys in the crappie section can help with that. Good luck.

My guess is it'll be at least a month before the crappie go shallow but it is a great crappie lake, and you should be able to catch them on rocky shorelines and coves with structure.
