Went down to san luis pass last weekend and caught a few stingrays. First time to catch anything on the surf. I keep the larger stingray and put him in my deep freeze for later. What kind of rig do I need to fish for sharks with stingrays? Can I cast it or do I need to bring a kayak and take the bait out and drop it off? I wont have my kayak back until march, but would like to do some more fishing before then. this is the one I kept Thanks in advance.

I'd wait until the water warms up to at least 58 degrees. At that water temp you can catch sandbar sharks. You may want to wait until March anyway. That's when shark fishing starts getting better. To answer your question, You can use casted bait or kayak'ed bait. I've caught a lot of bull sharks on casted stingray. If you decide to kayak, make sure you have the gear to handle it. You can also check out - SharksOnTheSand.com, ExtremeCoast.com, SouthFloridaSharkClub. All of these sites have plenty of info.

Too cold right now. You need to kayak it out. Here is what i use two 4 foot pieces of steel cable for leader material. At one end of each crimp a C hook then on each put a floating C hook. on the end with out a hook crimp them both to a sstrong swivel. BUT make sure the hooks are facing the same way. On right side of sting ray put a hook on tail section of wing and mouth section of wing, do this to the left side too with hooks opening on eye side of stingray (not mouth side). Use small zip ties to connect cable together going to swivel. This works good for me. I have learned 4 hooks work better than 1 or 2.
