For those that have a transducer mounted on the transom or somewhere on the back of the boat, how do you keep from getting it knocked off when you run over stumps? I lost three in a year before I had a hull mounted transducer installed. I am getting ready to put side imaging on the console and was told the transducer had to go on the transom, not shoot through the hull and I am concerned about it getting knocked off. I always used the pivoting mount but still got knocked off.
later...don

Have you used it before? Not trying to be a smartie, just curious.

on aluminums for example
the transducer is on the transom but above from the hull or bottom of your boat to protect it of stumpts for example . you are going to use side imagine while you are trolling and not on plane.
to get plane readings you use the sonar or DI transducer which will be the shootthrough or a transom mounted below 1/2 inches of your boat transom or bottom

I bought a $2 L bracket from Lowes and mounted them inside my jackplate. Has worked great so far.

What brand of boat do you have ?
Ranger mounts the SI transducer to the step.

IMHO - you are unlucky, and I am sorry that you have such things happen; mine is a Ranger and is mounted on the step.

later...don Do you have a jack plate? If so holler at Shirley @ transducer shield and saver, she'll get you set up with a bracket that will work very well.

I used the Transducer shield and saver from Scap and Shirley on my last boat. While it is a great product. Several times while in a stump field a stump would wedged between the LSS1 transducer bracket and the boat. On my current boat, it is mounted directly to the step.
I have the Transducer Shield and Saver bracket mounted on my trolling motor to protect the DI transducer.

Transducer saver they are spring loaded so when you go overs stump they will go right back to their position. Stainless steel they don't break.

I mount mine further to the right, where the bottom is a little higher in hopes that most of the time the lower center will make contact with the stump. I've knocked mine up a few times but have never damaged it. Sure you aren't over tightening it? I leave it loose enough that it can be bumped up fairly easily and even then, I've only had to reach in a push it back into place once.
