Anybody have any good ideas on the 360* white lights? I got a solar powered landscaping one from home depot yesterday and rigged it up with PVC, it works but it only puts out 1.2 lumens. It seems like it might be a little on the dim side.

I've been using the Tek-Tite Mark III 2-LED light for about 9 years now. It's the same light used in the Yak Attack products.

There are a lot of homemade ones that use an LED flashlight, a plastic milk or juice bottle as a diffuser, and a PVC pole. Remember, you need to be seen from 2 miles, if I recall correctly.

Picture shows red and green lights, but kit comes with a battery powered white light. I glued the white light into PVC and attached it to my crate. Cheap and easy.

Im a fan of the navisafe lights. They float, are LED and are USCG approved.

If you are looking for cheap, google UST Marine SEE-ME 1.0 Light. They sell them at Academy for 10 bucks. There are a bunch of ways to mount it. I took an old fishing rod that needed repair, cut it down to 4 feet or so and mounted the light on the end. Worked like a champ.

I used the streamlight below for many years in the salt. Can't say enough about how bright it is and how long they lasted.. its got a 360 bulb and easy to rig up on one of your fishing poles so that you don't have to get a dedicated light pole. 10 Lumens.

A good rule of angling philosphy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

2nd that K.D NaviSafe
Put it on your head / lashed to the vest you are "wearing". If you ever go in the drink and lose your yak you have a chance of being found vs. yak with nice 360 light being found.

The UST Marine SEE-ME 1.0 Compact LED Strobe Light for PFD features a virtually unbreakable LED, which produces a strobe rate of 60 flashes per minute that can be seen for up to 2.7 miles. The compact design, hook-and-loop strap and lanyard cord offer convenience, while the impact-resistant and waterproof casing offers durability in the water. This light is designed to be attached to a personal flotation device (PFD). USCG approved.

Funny that I saw this post because I am working on my light as well. If you're a cheapo like me, you could make something like this. I spent $1.25 on the light strip and found all the other stuff in my box of spare parts that my wife calls junk. Used 5050 LED's but they are way too bright...haven't decided on how I'll disperse/dim the lights. When I get around to it, I'll enclose the battery pack and throw on a push button switch.

Only tested at home, so not sure how well it will hold up. If it craps out, then it's a fun experiment and a few bucks down the drain.

.
Made my back light from a clamp on flashlight type stern light.
Took off the clamp. Glued on grey pvc coupling and a short
1" dia pvc pipe. Used nylon zip ties to hold in place some
foam insulation for a tight fit into one of my angled built
in rod holder tubes. The stern light needs to stick up above
your head and be seen 360 deg. I use a large (6 volt square
battery) type flashlight in the front under my bungee cords
as my bow light. No red/green lights. Watched a GW write a
ticket to another kayaker coming to the ramp in the dark a
few years ago.
