Just got back from Lake Picachos! Had a blast with BigBassBarry and some other new friends, the numbers were a little down from what we had been hearing, I don't doubt them i think we just arrived a little to late. We went Feb 12-15. Just about all the fish we had caught had already spawned, and hadn't fattened back up yet. But still were highly aggressive and fun to catch!
Day 1: 58
Day 2: 71
Day 3: 86
Day 4: 84
Most fish came off Senkos majority and then Lizards next. Not much topwater action, weights on our lizards and senko seemed to get more bites over weightless. Caught a few fish on spinnerbait.
Biggest was 3.5 with majority i'd say 1.5-2.5 range. Someone caught a 7# while down there but the sizes and amounts with the other camps were about the same. The only thing i would change is booking my trip sooner, maybe January next time.
Picachos is also a lake that is meant for a water supply to Mazatlan and we were told they just drew the lake down before we arrived which can also mess with the fish some. But we made the best of it still tracked plenty of action down.
We went through the locals saved a few bucks which is always a plus in my book, and were treated like kings! Alma at Picachos Bass Lodge made us feel right at home, great food, great service! We stayed in the house in town since the camp was full, which was fine with us, little roomier plus we like to stretch our legs and got out and visit the locals in the town during the day and in the evening.
We talked to a guy that used to own 1/2 of Zebco, that said March for the Tiger Shad spawn was one of his favorite times to go, and also in may, little to hot for me. But this guy said he just pulled Jimmy Houston boat down and that Jimmy would be there again this time in March to shoot another Picachos show.
GoPro Footage 4 Days total. I'll add the other days as I edit them.
