Fishing Fork in April & wanted to know which line Fork regulars use? I use 15lb Big Game on Toledo & Rayburn and wondered if that would be ok on Fork or maybe change to braid? Thanks!

15 or 20 works well for me

20# Big Game.

What your already using will be fine on Fork.

I use 10lb quite often in open water and never have a problem.

I use anything from 12-20 lb on fork

If sight fishing I would move up to 20lb or back the drag off some. I tend to break the line setting the hook that close to the boat.

12-15 Mono for top waters and nothing less than 15 flouro for anything else unless drop shotting for me

Just make sure you spool up some new line before you go.

I use at least 17 lb mono or fluoro for everything except for drop shot and shaky head. Use 15 lb for those. Majority of the time I use 20 lb.

Probably so but depends on what you are doing. If you are cranking I would say you are good with 15 Big Game. Pitching jigs or soft plastics up close in stumps or grass I would move up to 20.

It's not that the fish will break your line, its the angle of the line in relation to the fish's mouth when you set the hook.

Up close when you set the hook, the line is at almost a 90 degree angle to you and the fish. Plus the added pressure you can put on the fish at close range. I have broken 20# Big Game more times than I care to remember up close to a fish, sometimes looking right at them on the bed. And they don't have to be big fish either.

When you only have 10-20' of line between you and the fish, there is very little stretch to absorb the shock. You will rarely break off on the hookset when you get a bite at the end of a long cast because the long length of line acts as a shock absorber.

So to answer your question, Yes, 15# Big Game is enough, right up to the point where it breaks.

In regards to braid, I think you sacrifice bites but that's just IMO. On reaction type baits like a fast moving crankbait, you can most likely get away with it but on a soft plastic bait, if I were to use braid, I would employ the use of a relatively heavy fluorocarbon leader.

Just practice a couple of knots like the Albright or double-uni to join them together and you will be fine.

15lb. Big Game is good. The only time I use braid is on frogs.

Thanks for the input, I'm going to put some new 15# Big Game on my reels before going. I was asking because I'll probably hang the new state record bass and wanted to make sure I got it in the boat.

As my post stated, I plan to put new line on before trip, but I've always kept fresh line on my reels. Just wanted opinions from lake Fork regulars....I'm staying with BG as of now.
