Do live wells need a vent? I treat the water, keep it at certain temperature...but are they ok sealed? Or need a vent?
Thanks

All are really tight when closed. The spray bar or nozzle will put the needed air bubbles in the water to keep the fish alive on recirculate. No vent is needed; just a good strong pump for aeration and recirculation. The oxygenator is great also.
Just use catch and release or one of the others. Start cooling the water down with ice or frozen bottles during the heat of the summer months. I use the quart ones and change them out every two hours starting about 10:00 in the morning. I do not put in any fresh water while this is taking place; so I go to recirculate.

Keep in mind using ice will introduce whatever chemicals may be in that particular water supply...I would opt for the frozen, sealed plastic bottles.

Good point boeing driver. I fill my water bottles up with either well water or fill them at the lake as I am taking the boat out of the water. I like to take the caps of so that cold water enters the live well.

In the summer months, I bring eight frozen 20 oz. Gaterade bottles. Four are filled with plain water with the caps on, and the other 4 have dissolved "Please Release Me" in them (looking fairly dark green). When on recirculate, I will put a bottle with the PRM in, with the cap removed, so it can slowly release the PRM and cool the water at the same time. If we have a lot of fish in the live well, I will sometimes drain it almost all the way and immediately put in fresh lake water (it helps to have a bucket for this), then start the process again. I use recirculate a lot during the hotter days

You can use Ice as long as you use one of the treatments that dissolves the chlorine. U2 Formula, Please Release Me, & etc. If you have an Oxygenator be sure to use the U2 Formula. We use Blue Ice containers made by Rubbermaid and Coleman to keep our water cooled down in the Summer months. We carry 10-12 of these. Using 1-2 every hour. they keep our livewell water at 70.

Ya I fill 2 liter bottles and pour catch n release in the bottle and frz! Just like Donald I drop a bottle in every couple hrs! But nothing is better than a good strong pump in and recirc... Besides the new O2 systems

If you're fishing a tourney make sure you read the rules thoroughly or ask if it's legal, some tourneys it's against the rules to put ice of some sorts in your livewells.
