OK, I know how to change lower unit oil on an outboard, just curious if everyone checks the lower unit oil before purchasing a used boat from a private owner? The only way to check for water would be to drain it, right? About to buy my first bass boat and didn't know if it would be weird to ask to drain the oil to check for water? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

leave upper plug in lower unit and loosen lower plug. you can let out a few drops. if water is in lower unit it will be milky or if unit has been sitting a while water will come
out.

Ok great, Thanks. The boat I'm going to look at has a 99 Mercury 200. Does anybody know if these motors have the 2 plug system?
