Just ordered a hds 7 gen 2 off of cabelas. It was on sale for $600. It doesn't come with the structure scan module. I can add this on later correct? As of now its just traditional sonar and gps?

You are correct. You can add the structure scan module and transducer later. As long as you got the 83/200 transducer you will have 2d sonar and gps.

I wouldn't wait for too long to get the SS box.... I can't imagine lowrance will be making them for more than a year or so. Touch units ( built in SS ) have been out for over 2 years, so don't get caught. You can probably find a deal on BBC or in the trade/sell thread.
The cheapest place to get the LSS2 transducer is West Marine ~ $199

That's a great unit at a great price. When I saw it on sale it made my stomach sick. I paid full price for mine less than a year ago. Congrats. Mine came with Lowrance's maps pre-loaded. They are really good. I bought the navionics chip for a pretty penny and there is very little difference between the two.

I was at a Lowrance seminar yesterday and the speaker said in the future the Gen3's and Elite series will be all that Lowrance will make. They will still service the older models but will stop making them. Said anytime you see Lowrance offer an item on sale and also give a rebate on it then it's fixing to be discontinued. I also just got a new HDS7 touch. It's still sitting on the kitchen table.

They won't even service them after 2 years, they make you upgrade to a new model or throw your old graph in the trash can.

Really, he didn't mention that. He did suggest that everyone should save their waypoints to a SD card at least once a month. Says if you send your unit in for repair you'll never see your waypoints again and more than likely you won't get the same unit back.

No matter what I still need to buy the module correct? The lss2 transducer won't give me any benefits unless I have the module? Since it's not a touch
