Hello, I'm very new to fishing, and had a question about lure colors. Everything I can find online says for a general rule, if the water is murky/muddy and it's dark/cloudy outside, you should use darker colors like black/blue. If it's clear water or its sunny outside use light colors like white /chartreuse.
My issue is what do I do if it is muddy water and bright outside. I understand I need to try different things to see what the fish like, but I'm just getting started so I don't have much take yet, and I would like to buy just 3-4 good color combinations to get me started.
I will be fishing murky water, so I would like to have 1-2 choices for when it's cloudy and 2-3 choices for when it's sunny. I will basically be buying a plastic I can texas rig. Sooo, what would you buy if you were in my shoes? Thanks!

Black and blue, green pumpkin, watermelon red, and some sort of red with flake in it covers all bases for me. I use black and blue or green pumpkin 90% of the time because the water I fish is usually stained or muddy. I only worry about cloud cover when I'm fishing hard baits

Basic Colors that work well.. There are a ton of colors out there that work well also but these are a few that work quite often.
Black/blue Watermelon/red, (actually anything watermelon) watermelon see, watermelon purple, candy, gold. etc. Green Pumpkin and various glitter colors just like the watermelon ones. Red shad Plumb (plum apple and plum crazy) Variations of plumb one adds green glitter and the other has some red glitter. Tequila sunrise Chartruce pepper
Bluefleck

For T-rigs, I don't stray far from watermelon or green pumpkin (like the other guys have said--pick a "glitter/fleck" that suits your fancy). A lot of guys like T-rigging a senko, but I don't. If I'm throwing a t-rig, it's probably a craw worm, brush hog, or power worm.

For basic Tx. rigging I throw a ribbon tail worm like a Culprit, Berkley power worm, Lake Fork Tackle ring worm in the colors listed above.
Senkos I throw weightless in shallow water either Txposed or wacky rigged.
Dirty water, sunny day, I would throw Junebug/chartruce tip, black/blue, green pumpkin/purple, and chartruce pepper and see which they like best. Black/neon or black/chartruce tail is another good alternative.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'll start with a couple watermelon and green pumpkin worms. Already have watermelon lizards, and bule/black craw. So I will try them texas rigged with weights and weightless, and probably drop shot as well. I also have a couple flukes white/chart. I have yet to catch a fish on an artificial bait so wish me luck. I will definitely post my first catch ever on here when I do. Thanks again!
