There's been a lot of talk on this site in the last few months about the state of our sport, the economy, sponsorship and where we are headed. This article is spot on. http://www.bassfan.com/opinion_article.asp?ID=1305#.VPCJ1kvdlqsWhat I witnessed in Greenville last week was outstanding and the sport of bass fishing is alive and well. Kudos to BASS for an awesome event and for continuing to push the sport forward. Last week they kicked the naysayers right in the teeth. Can't wait for the next Classic.

I think BASS itself is doing well but after watching and hearing Ashley as well as seeing so many of the younger pros doing well I think BASS is in EXCELLENT hands behind the scenes and on the water. Ashley will be an incredible ambassador and champion. Lots of great anglers as well as also being great people in the game right now. Fun time to see a bit of the changing of the guard.

I must have been on a deserted island, did not know BASS was ever in a bad state. I have ALWAYS year in and year out seen anglers/sponsors/manufactures come and go, no different this year. Technology/Goals/Philosophies change each year, some years more than others, no different this year, but this does not mean that BASS is in trouble in any way.

I have to agree Mark. The classic expo was absolutely packed Saturday and the sponsors were out in force! Wish I could have gone Sunday too but flu kicked in.

I honestly see a MLF like format taking over in the coming years. Could be wrong. They won't be fishing for their own money

They won't be fishing for their own money I'm a big fan of Major League Fishing but without an actual event that can be attended it's missing a piece of the puzzle. They may evolve to that but in its current format it can't challenge BASS or FLW. Events drive business. Always have, always will.

Look at the price of new boats and tell me bass fishing was or is struggling. BASS Pro Shops are extremely popular. Lots of guides that are making a living just fishing, maybe not getting rich but doing ok. Bass fishing is alive and well.
