Been thinking about trying to drop a green light off the kayak at night for crappie. Anyone ever done this?

It works for other boats so I don't why a kayak would be any different for a kayak.

It should bring in the bait fish and hopefully some crappie will show up to feast on the bait fish.

Is it likely that Mr. No-Shoulders crawls up in the kayak you think?

As a kayaker, that would be my first concern. Second would be boaters running up on me. Even with the required lighting.

I don't use a kayak but it would seem to me to be safer at night than during the day if you are concerned about the irresponsible use of boats along the shoreline.

I doubt you will find as many bass boats at night and the ones you do find would be operating at a safer speed near the shore.

Been using them for over 10 years in in kayaks and much longer than that out of my canoes. both green and clear. Incredible luck with them just lake anywhere else.

And yes, snakes do visit sometime if the weather is warm. No problem this time of year at all but then the fishing is totally different also. There is no feeling like reaching behind your back into the minnow bucket and grabbing a handfull of something squirming. 99% are watersnakes but that doesn't help the heart or drawers for that first few moments there.

That has actually only happened once ( and that is enough ) in my life, but I have been approached dozens of times, particularly by the smaller/younger water snakes in the spring.

Submerged lights don't tend to drawn much other than fish. the lights mounted on the side will attract much more including insects.

Best of luck, Phill

It only cost me $40 ,I ordered the lights off ebay and used super glues and water proof silicone to hold them on and powered it with my fish finder battery
