What are your strategies for fishing shallow during the spawn when all the shallow water is full of grass?

If the mats get to thick for the TM, bust out your chest waders and a 12 foot pole.

Hydrilla usually means clear water which means crappie spawn deeper. I used to catch crappie in the holes in hydrilla at Sam Rayburn in 8-12 FOW. Found one hole in 10 FOW about 25 ft across and proceeded to catch 18 from that one spot. I don't think they will spawn under the hydrilla; need some sunlight.

I guess the bank or maybe a flat bottom john boat ? of course if the water clarity is like Ken said rather clear they may be on the outer edge of the mats as well one thing for certain I would try to drop a presentation in ANY holes in the mat for grins try setting your float about 3 foot deep and fishing the 5 to 6 foot deep on outer areas of the mat
