I am curious how the spawn/sight fishing is on Ray Roberts? Seems like these shallow stump filled coves set up perfect for it. Anyone had any success doing this?

Most of the beds you won't be able to see, they'll be deeper around base of the trees, most of the time around one little stick up.

I thought about this last night. I don't think that water is clear enough to see beds.

You can see lots of fish on beds in that lake. Pick any of the clearer creeks and go back in the pockets.

If I can see the bottom in 7-8 ft of water, that's pretty clear. I catch bed fish on Lake X all the time and only able to see bottom at 4-6 ft.

The lake seems like it is as clear as I have ever seen it this year. I bet you will be able to see more fish on deeper beds than normal.

In the past it has been tough for me, it seems that the bigger ones are a littler deeper than you can see. You will find a few though.

What?

I have caught plenty of fish sight fishing on Livingston and there isn't a place on that lake you can see 7-8 feet deep!

We did really good at times sight fishing last year. The Zebra's have helped. Buch1565 caught a giant off a bed last year and she was right on the bank. Most of them aren't however. A lot of it will depend on if we get any rain and the lake comes up this spring.

I think if you can see deeper than 4-5 ft you should be able to do pretty swell sight fishing! I'm sure that they will spawn and bed up deeper than that, but theres a good amount that will be in that range.

All the bigger fish I caught last year during the spawn were in deeper water and I could not visually see them.

It seems to vary year to year at Roberts. I've had several years where the sight fishing was excellent there--but most years I'd rate the sight fishing fair at best. As Danny mentioned, a lot depends on how much rain the lake gets during that March/April time frame.
