Due to conflicting weather forecasts and models, we are going to wait until tomorrow morning (before 9:00 AM) to make a final decision about this weekends event.

We have a record # of pre-entries for a Bass Champs event, and we know a lot of you want to fish, but safety is our first priority.

Of course the weather changes more than my Ex-girlfriend's moods but looks like the weather for saturday wont be to bad. At any rate Good call to watch it close and keeping in mind the safety of the anglers.

Great decision Bass Champs..... Weather is definitely changing. Good decision to wait until tomorrow. I hope it lets up enough so we can fish Saturday!

I know the time that they cancelled the one on Cedar Creek , they called me cause I was coming from Memphis to fish it, The lady that called said it was cancelled so I didn't leave and make the trip. I told her that I was already there and there was no snow, but I hadn't left Memphis yet, we both got a good laugh over it,

Good call to wait , better safe then Sorry

If the north Texas Area calls for snow or ice over night Friday to Saturday morning have to cancel! Can't wait and wake up with ice on the roads!

I fished that event as well (ran by champs) and it should have been canceled before the event started. There was major lightning from start to finish and I haven't ever been that scared to be on the water. His point is if safety is top priority that tourney never should have happened. That being said I love fishing Basschamps and think they do a great job. But safety was not top priority that day and I take it megabass was or is a big $ day for them.

By no means was I trying to start anything with you good sir. I was just messing around b/c my Dumb Arse was out there too wondering what I was still doing on the water lol!!!! In champs defense I don't remember lightning but for a short time the rest just rain. Not trying to get this thread off track though so good on you guys watching the weather for this weekend. Good Luck to everyone and stay safe!

For all you guys wanting to fish it....how safe do you think it will be towing boats down there and around the area if we really do get freezing rain and/or snow? What about backing a boat down a frozen boat ramp? I had a buddy of mine tell me today about some stories from Squaw Creek back in the days when guys with 2 wheel drive trucks needed help just getting back up the ramp. No thanks!

Champs will make the right decision on this either way. I've seen them hold us 2 hours for fog, delay because of lightning in the morning at our Championship and flat out cancel an event because of a ton of snow....all in the effort to be safe. They, more than anyone, don't want to cancel this because rescheduling is a nightmare because they are so busy for months out.

Whatever they do we will be fine with. They say come on and we will be there freezing our nads off, they say stay home and we will do just that.

Seems like a good idea to wait until tomorrow morning to make the call. I am planning on driving up tomorrow as soon as possible to make sure I am at the lake and not driving on possible ice.

I grew up in Kentucky. I've launched on icy ramps a few times, and most of the time it wasn't because it was dropped by mother nature. With the forecasted lows and no host ramp, the ramps will likely freeze when guys pull their trailers out in the morning. I hope I'm one of the first to launch. I've backed down a few icy ramps, and I can tell you it isn't fun. But it's doable. Your tires should get traction when they hit the water. Try to find the clearest path and put your vehicle in neutral instead of reverse. Don't unlatch your boat until you get to the water, but I normally loosen the strap enough to allow the boat to start to float when it gets in the water.
Trails in KY rarely trailer, so TDs normally put sand down at the host ramp and keep a close eye on the ramp while guys are launching. That's not going to be possible with this tournament.

I'm really looking forward to it, and who knows what the weather is going to do. But if we do see ice or below freezing temps the morning of, I hope this info helps some of you guys that aren't used to launching on ice.
