I was wondering what y'alls first impressions on these were. I think they look like some pretty quality rods for the price range. $179-$200 seems just more in the wheelhouse of someone like me living on a college budget.

I held my first one this weekend at Oak Ridge on Lake Fork. I will be getting a few as soon as I can. It didn't feel or look like they sacrificed anything in the one I held.

Thats great to hear! I have been attracted to them for a while because of their reputation and their quality but they've always been too rich for my blood. Thanks for the input!

I haven't tried one yet, but most early reviews (industry types, so you have take with a grain of salt) have been positive - been reading up and trying several "new" rod models recently (KLX, Tatuta, Orochi, Zillion) as I'm going to replace some older ones I have. There have been some comments that for the price the E6X should come with better guides, but other than that I haven't heard anything negative. From recent comments on several reviews/boards they seem to be slightly lighter than the GL2, more sensitive than the GL2, closer to GL3, but less than the IMX sensitivy-wise.

$200 is becoming a crowded price point - Cara, Crucial, KLX, Champion, Aetos, Avid, and the new Enigma and E6X, etc.. and for just a bit more you can get into the DX line, Envy, Cumara, Helium3, Zillion, Megabass, etc...

I looked at the E6X at the Classic expo and they were light and seemed well built but for the price range I don't think they were any better than a lot of the other rods. I really liked the Enigma rods and tested one out at the Microwave guides casting booth. I think they were lighter and stronger than the E6X. The guy at the Engima booth bent one of the heavy rods so far I thought it was gonna snap but it never did.

I'd hope these new loomis sticks are light/more sensitive than a gl2.

those are junk.

I agree 100% with you on that one and I'm a huge G.loomis fan. Never did figure what they were trying to accomplish with the GL2. Much, much better rods on the market in that range. Hopefully the EX6 will make up for it.

The E6 will cost about $200. It will be worth about $100 when you decide it's no better than a G2. That will have the real investment at around $300. So, when you use "my math", you really should just reach out to the XX Orachi. Or my favorite in that price range ... The Cara ST.

Agreed, you see Dobyns, NRX's, MB's, Kisters, Quantum/Shimano/Daiwa etc rods on the various sale boards all the time, but you rarely see many Cara's... to me that says people use them and keep them. They aren't the flashiest rods out there (which is something I like about them), but they are solid and imo lead the $200 price point. And they haven't fallen into the skinny grip syndrome that so many rod companies have gone to recently.

I picked up an MB to try, but I'm not sure that it's $100 better than a Cara, tbh.

The Orochi is a good rod, no doubt. I've used the GL2 and have held the E6X. The E6X is a better rod. A lot of guys haven't had a chance to try them out or even look at them in person, because they were a Classic release item.

The logic in that math hmmm The initial investment would be $190-$200 (Tackle Warehouse). If I spend $200 and I get $100 back after using it, then I paid $100 for the use. To me, that's like saying if I buy a car for $20,000 and then sell it for $10,000, it cost me $30,000. Not really. I paid $10K to drive it around for 6 years.

You can get the E6X in full cork or split grip.

If this is for me, I was referring to the width of the grip behind the reel seat - not split vs. full. Seems like recently companies have gone to a thinner grip there, ie 13 Fishing, Kistler, Daiwa/Shimano, Okuma, etc. Some may prefer that, I guess. I just like a little more thickness, ie Falcon, Dobyns, MB, etc. Older style, I reckon smile.

And while it is true the E6X's are avail in both full and split grips - you have to choose a series. You can't get a full grip JWR, for instance, or a split grip MBR. At least not as of the initial release...maybe more options are coming later. Dobyns' and Falcon come to mind where you can choose split or full grip cork on most of their rods, there may be others as well.

You do bring up a valid point, not too many people have fished the E6X yet, myself included. So a lot of what is written recently is conjecture at best. I suspect we will see more informative reviews as the rods get in the hands of the public.

I will have to take a look a those enigma rods, the features they presented seemed a little gimicky to me but I will have to see. Thanks for the advice on the GL2, didn't know that about them like I said I've never bought any Loomis rods due to the cost. My most expensive rod is an old Powell Max I got used. My search is for a new CB rod, throwing moderate-deep divers. If I can find one I am looking for a rod that will throw my wiggle warts and the 6-8XD pretty well. Any suggestions are appreciated.

That's a swing from 3/8 to 1.3oz, a prety wide range even for a crankbait rod... Better suggestions may be forthcoming, but first thing that comes to mind is the Dobyns Champion 765CB or CB Glass, and the 804CBRM. 765 tops out at 1oz, but might handle the 1.3oz. 8XD if you don't get agressive when throwing it. 804CB is probably the better choice, Should handle both the 6/8XD, and theoretically good down to 3/8oz as well. It's a bit faster taper than most crankbait rods, by design - so it also depends on what you like in a crankbait rod action.

Right. But at the end of your "$10,000 use of a car", you're then left walking or spendig another $20k plus the $10k to "drive the old car" money that was lost. in effect spending $30k.
