I like to fish a dropshot rig, but prefer casting gear over spinning gear. Am fishing in water with no vegetation or wood. The water is stained, but not bad. What size line would you use on a baitcasting reel for this application? Will appreciate hearing your thoughts.

10lb floro. Untwist line after each outing BC it will begin to twist. I'll have my son take the end and run down the block.

Swalker and Rick, thanks for the replies. Wow, I've never used a line size less than 12# on casting gear.

I use casting gear for drop shot as well and do well with 12lb fluoro.

Only thing is you can't cast it very far, good if your using electronics and drop shotting straight down.

I use a lot of mono for main line 15# and 8# to 12# on line below swivel, with the hook about 1.5 feet below swivel. I sometimes use Fluorocarbon on main line 12# if its clearer water. I use the bigger line in the spring when you could get into a big one.

I think Diawa and Shimano make a baitcast reel just for super light line finesse fishing.

I used 10lb fluoro on my bait cast setup for drop shot. No problems but I haven't fished it around brush or had a big fish on either. Coach

I used 12lb fluoro on a baitcaster, with a 7ft med/light rod.

I use 10 or 12 pound fluoro (Invisix)leader tied onto 20 pound braid. I really like TFO's drop shot rod and I am using a Curado baitcast reel.

I finally stopped using fluoro line and don't think my catch rate has suffered as a result. When I would get a kink in it, it would break at the worst time (had some good fish swim off with my hook and twenty or thirty feet of line). It is stiffer than mono, which I think affects the action of the lure. In spite of what anyone says, it stretches about as much as mono. When I wanted to throw a top water bait on a rod that had fluoro on it, that was a problem, it sinks and pulls the lure down. Also, I'm not convinced that green line is not less visible under water than fluoro. And, of course, the cost of fluoro becomes expensive if you change line as often as I do. I'm using mono and copolymer line now, but have recently used a mono line that has a fluoro coating, haven't decided yet what I think of it. Just my two cents on line. I know I'm biased against fluoro, and not in step with what most people use.
